Yangon NDPRW

24 July 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, in celebration of the 37th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (NDPRW), visited the Yangon Education Centre for the Blind on July 23.

Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua handed the Embassy’s modest donation for the upkeep of the school over to Reverend U Thein Lwin, General-Secretary of the Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind (MCFB). Ambassador Chua expressed his hope that the school will continue with its advocacy of empowering people with sight impairments.

Reverend U Thein Lwin praised the Philippines for coming up with legislations that protect the well-being of persons with disabilities. He said the Yangon Education Centre for the Blind has been translating to the Myanmar language some of the Philippines’ legislations in the hope that Myanmar will be inspired to come up with similar legislations.

The Philippine Embassy in Yangon is a patron of the Yangon Education Centre for the Blind. Last year, the Embassy held a simple program at Yangon Education Centre for the Blind to celebrate the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week. This year, the Embassy enjoined the diplomatic community to donate to the Yangon Education Centre for the Blind and other charities in lieu of sending flowers for the 117th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence.
