TORONTO MUSEUM

14 August 2015 - Officers of the Consulate General of the Philippines in Toronto paid a visit to the Textile Museum of Canada in downtown Toronto on August 11.

Philippine Consul General to Toronto Rosalita S. Prospero was accompanied by Deputy Consul General J. Susana V. Paez, Consul Shirley E. Banquicio, Consul Bolivar L. Bao and Labor Attaché Leonida V. Romulo for the museum visit.  The team was welcomed by Museum curator Roxanne Shaughnessy, who gave them a tour of the museum’s public exhibits, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at their collection that included indigenous textiles and fabric from the Philippines whose providence ranged from the Cordilleras down to Mindanao.

To help broaden the museum’s appreciation and understanding of Filipino textile, the Consul General presented Ms. Shaughnessy with a copy of the coffee table book, “Baro,“ which the curator received with appreciation as a welcome addition to the museum’s library.  She was also given a hand-woven bag made by the women weavers of Rurungan sa Tubod Foundation of Palawan from natural fibers.
