17 August 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver recently co-presented an art exhibition entitled “Pagtitipon: A Gathering”, an event showcasing a collective body of original works by Filipino-Canadian and Filipino-American artists from August 10 to 14, at the Roundhouse Community Centre, Vancouver, BC. 

The curated exhibition, organized by the Filipino Music and Art Foundation in BC (FMAFBC) and supported by the Global Filipino Diaspora Canada, presented divergent artistic styles of ten esteemed artists, namely, Jose Trinidad, Edgardo Lantin, Esmie Gayo McLaren, Tessie Dichupa, Art Zamora, Danvic Briones, Lenore RS Lim, Bert Monterona, Carlos Esguerra and Imelda Cajipe Endaya, who served as the curator for the show. 

Philippine Ambassador to Canada Petronila P. Garcia attended the Artists reception as the guest of honor on August 11, calling the exhibition a celebration of creative convergence of divergent artistic genres, and congratulating the artists whose artworks span decades of hard work and dedication to their craft.

Ambassador Garcia, in her remarks, also highlighted the importance of the event as a way to promote appreciation and understanding of fine arts, especially those influenced by the artists’ Filipino heritage and culture, within the BC community.  She also noted that more than just a cultural event, exhibitions such as Pagtitipon promote social dialogues and people-to-people exchanges especially in a multicultural setting like BC, providing an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of cultural diversity.

The Artists reception was attended by over 300 guests, including esteemed members of the consular corps, representatives from the BC government, movers in the BC art community, distinguished businessmen and academics, members of the Filipino community in BC, the media, as well as other guests representing various sectors and walks of life.
