Egypt

27 August 2015 - To better inform household service workers (HSWs) in Egypt about local rules and regulations affecting them, the Philippine Embassy in Cairo launched a mini-brochure entitled “Mga Dapat Malaman Tungkol sa Pagtatrabaho sa Egypt bilang Kasambahay.”

The brochure provides HSWs with valuable information about entering, living and working in Egypt, as well as detention and court procedures in Egypt. The Embassy intends to distribute the brochure among Filipina HSWs as part of its continuing efforts to protect overseas Filipino workers in Cairo.

Many Filipina HSWs in Egypt become vulnerable to different forms of abuse due to their lack of legal status. The brochure was designed to be both handy and durable for HSWs’ safekeeping.

The project, a Gender and Development (GAD) initiative, aims bolster the right of women to information affecting them, as called for by Section 26 of Republic Act No. 9710 or the Magna Carta for Women. END
