27 August 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales delivered a lecture on August 25 before the academic community of the Singapore Management University (SMU) and members of the diplomatic corps. As invited lecturer at the Conversations with Ambassadors Series for the semester, Ambassador Morales presented his reflections on Philippines-Singapore Relations, in line with the 50th founding anniversary of Singapore that was recently commemorated.

The Conversations with Ambassadors Series is a semestral session sponsored by the Wee Kim Wee Centre, SMU, where members of the academe and the public get to know different countries better – their people, economies, customs, traditions, history, and politics.

Ambassador Morales highlighted the warm bilateral relations between the Philippines and Singapore, and the robust economic partnership between the two countries which continues to grow from strength to strength. He also stressed how significant the participation of Singapore is in the Philippine’s evolving story, with the growth of investments of Singapore companies in the Philippines vis-à-vis the growth of Philippine companies investing or opening branches in Singapore.

Ambassador Morales also discussed the mutually beneficial relations and synergies between the two countries, especially on people-to-people exchanges.

The lecture generated an interesting discussion as audiences fielded questions on domestic issues, such as migration, population, peace and security in Mindanao, and the economic resurgence of the country. END
