03 September 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Doha, in cooperation with the Filipino community, launched Kulinarya Qatar at the Intercontinental Doha The City on August 27, in line with the Embassy’s economic and cultural diplomacy thrusts.
Attended by Filipino community leaders, members of the Filipino local media, hotel representatives, and businessmen, as well as other Embassy representatives, Kulinarya Qatar is a brand/movement that will encapsulate all planned initiatives to promote the Philippines as a leading culinary, tourist and business destination.
“Filipino cuisine has yet to leave its mark in the world. With Kulinarya Qatar, we will change all that as we use food as a vehicle for promoting Filipino national identity and culture,” Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo C. Santos said.
Inspired by the recent success of the Eidl Fitr Filipino Food Festival held last July 17 to 19 in Doha, the first official activity under Kulinarya Qatar will be the Filipino Community Family Day to be held from September 23 to 26 near the Qatar Sports Club.
As this event will coincide with the celebration of the Eid al-Adha, a major Islamic holiday, this will surely entice families from the Filipino, Qatari, and other expatriate communities to take part in this Filipino gastronomic experience.
Other activities lined up for Kulinarya Qatar for the rest of the year until 2016 are Filipino night buffets in partnership with Doha-based hotels, cooking demos, competitions and training, and development of a Kulinarya magazine.
The Embassy also hopes to partner with various Filipino food brands in promoting Filipino cuisine in the events lined up for Kulinarya Qatar. END
