10 September 2015 - The ASEAN Committee in Athens (ACAT) met with the Governor of Central Macedonia, Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, on September 06, at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition and Conference Center. The joint call was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Athens.
Present during the meeting were the Ambassadors of the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand. Governor Tzitzikostas also invited Mr. Constantine Michalos, President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to attend the joint call.
Philippine Ambassador to Greece Nestor Z. Ochoa, as ACAT Chair, expressed pleasure at the opportunity to meet the Governor. He then gave a brief introduction of ASEAN and ACAT. He informed the Governor that ASEAN is a regional grouping of 10 Member States geographically located in Southeast Asia. Since 2013, the resident ambassadors of the four ASEAN member countries in Athens namely, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Viet Nam, have been meeting regularly. The formation of the Committee was approved by all ASEAN Member States in 2014.
At the end of the meeting, the Ambassadors, Governor Tzitzikostas, and Mr. Michalos agreed to meet again to discuss the details of organizing trade missions of Greek businessmen to the ASEAN region and ASEAN businessmen to Greece. END
