14 September 2015 – Philippine Consul General to Agana Marciano R. De Borja met with Dr. Robert Underwood, President of the University of Guam (UOG), on September 10 at the Office of the President, UOG. During the meeting, the Consul General informed the UOG President of the forthcoming visit of Dr. Bernardo M. Villegas, Professor at the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), Founder and Director of the Center for Research and Communication and Member of the UA&P Board of Trustees. The Consulate General has proposed for the University of Guam to host Dr. Villegas as a guest lecturer for the Philippine Studies series on October 26.

As one of the country’s most respected economists, Dr. Villegas will deliver a lecture on the recent developments in the Philippine economy, prospects and opportunities offered by ASEAN economic integraton, and other regional economic developments such as APEC.

Meanwhile, Dr. Underwood informed Consul General de Borja of his planned visit to the Philippines in November 2015 to meet with officials of the Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT). To date, the University of Guam has an existing partnership with the Mapua Institute of Technology, which has been helping the UOG develop its programs in civil and environmental engineering. The University President also mentioned that there is currently one UOG engineering graduate student that is taking up doctoral studies at MIT. END
