21 September 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago attended the Field Museum’s 2015 Conservation Celebration held at the Chicago Field Museum on September 15.
The annual event featured the awarding of the Field Museum’s Parker/Gentry Award for Conservation Biology to Dutch biologist Merlijn Van Weerd for his work in the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park and with the Mabuwaya Foundation.
Mr. Van Weerd gave a presentation about his work on conservation and continuing research on the Philippine crocodile, as well as other endemic threatened species and their habitat in Northern Luzon, focusing on their conservation, public acceptance, and support.
Attending the event on behalf of the Consulate were Philippine Consul General to Chicago Generoso DG Calonge, Consul Ricarte Abejuela III, Ms. Liezel Alcantara, and Mr. Jose Erandio.
Mr. Van Weerd will be giving a similar presentation at the Consulate General of the Philippines during its Monthly Meet Up on September 16 at the Kalayaan Hall. END
