28 September 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi conducted a Gender and Awareness Development Seminar on Section 21 of RA 9710 Magna Carta for Women, on September 13 at the Heron Portico Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
The seminar, attended by 30 participants from the Embassy and the Filipino community, was conducted with the assistance of Women’s Rights Awareness Programme Kenya (WRAP Kenya) a non-governmental organization based in Nairobi whose thrust is to protect the rights of women and children. Atty. Dawood Farrah of WRAP Kenya led the seminar which focused on ensuring that women are knowledgeable of their rights under Section 21 and the benefits that that they are entitled to under the law. Atty. Farrah, a leading advocate of women’s rights, not only informed the participants of their rights under Philippine law but was able to impart knowledge on how local Kenyan laws apply to them as well.
The event is the first of three seminars that the Philippine Embassy will be conducting in line with the Gender and Development program of the Philippine Government. END
