14 October 2015 - The Embassy of the Philippines in Amman once again successfully participated in the Annual Diplomatic Bazaar held on October 10 at Al Hussein Youth City under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal. The Diplomatic Bazaar is being held annually for the benefit of the children of Mubarrat Um Al-Hussein, an orphanage in Marka in west Amman.
The Embassy featured Philippine traditional handicrafts, accessories, mats, textiles, and souvenirs at its booth. It also showcased Philippine native delicacies and food such as polvoron, sago’t gulaman, dried mangoes, puto, adobo, ginataan, fresh lumpia, atchara and pastillas. The Embassy also gave away Philippine tourism brochures and displayed “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” posters, and encouraged the guests to visit the country.
This year’s Bazaar was further animated with the ASEAN Karaoke Booth, which was initiated and put up by the Philippine Embassy. The sing-for-a-cause activity highlighted ASEAN solidarity and the singing talent of the ASEAN community. Each ASEAN Ambassador in Amman, which includes the Ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, rendered a song for the benefit of Mubarrat Um Al-Hussein. Various nationalities like the Ambassador of Brazil and his spouse, young Jordanians, Russians, British, Azerbaijanis, among others, also joined the fun by singing. All proceeds of the ASEAN Karaoke Booth will go directly to the orphanage.
The Bazaar was highlighted by the visit of Her Royal Highness, Princess Basma Bint Tal, who commended the Philippine Embassy for putting up such a fun activity like the ASEAN Karaoke Booth which everybody enjoyed. END
