AGANA AFP

19 October 2015 – An 18-member Armed Forces of the Philippines-Reserved Officers Training Corps (AFP-ROTC) delegation paid a courtesy call on Philippine Consul General Marciano R. de Borja at the Philippine Consulate General in Agana on October 15.

The AFP-ROTC delegation was led by Brigadier General Jonathan G. Ponce, AFP Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs, J9. He was accompanied by the following officers of the Armed of the Philippines, namely, LTC Rolando R. Rodil, PA (MNSA), Chief, Manpower Development and Administration Division, OJ9  and his wife, Architect Gemma O. Rodil,  LTC Sergio S. Botangen (INF) PA Group Operations Officer, 3RCDG, ARESCOM, CDR John A. Barrameda PN (GSC), Commander, Naval Reserve Center - Eastern Mindanao, 1LT Ken T. Kiat-Ong, PAF, Commandant, 234th DAST, St. Louis College, La Union; and TSG Romeo M. Perez Jr., PAF, NCOIC, Procurement Branch, MDAD, OJ9, Batangas.

The 12 ROTC representatives were composed of 1) Sgt. Carlo G. Pangan (Res) PA, Corps Commander, Pampanga State Agricultural University ROTC, 2) Sgt. Shane L. Narvasa (Res) PA, Corps Commander, Holy Cross College of Calinan ROTC Unit, 5) Sgt. Carlyn Thea A. Villanueva (Res) PA, Corps Commander, University of the Philippines, Diliman ROTC, 6) Pvt Therese Stephanie E. Amante (Res) PA, Corps Commander, Surigao State College of Technology ROTC, 7) Sgt. The delegation is in Guam to attend a three-day training and exposure program which is a component of the AFP-Guam National Guard State Partnership Program aimed at enhancing the capacity of the Philippine Armed Forces. The ROTC cadets will be given a chance to meet their ROTC counterparts at the University of Guam and will attend orientation and practical training by the Guam National Guard in Field Combat Care, Leadership, and Human Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR).

Consul General Marciano R. de Borja welcomed Brigadier General Ponce and the delegates and expressed appreciation to them for visiting the Consulate. He challenged particularly the ROTC cadets to do their best to develop their capabilities given the opportunities available to them. He also encouraged them to further enhance their sense of nationalism given the different challenges that confront the Filipino nation and society today.

Brigadier General Ponce thanked Consul de Borja for the warm welcome accorded to them. He also expressed hope that the program would boost the morale of the participant ROTC cadets and would encourage them to eventually join the military or the AFP. He also thanked the Guam National Guard for the great support to the AFP through the State Partnership Program.

The AFP-ROTC delegation was accompanied during the call by Major Jumar Castro, 2LT Jemilyn Arriola and SSG Manolito Molinos of the Guam National Guard.  END
