20 October 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Santiago has once again participated in the Fiestas de las Naciones 2015 which was held from October 09 to 12 at the Munich Events Center Malloco. The fiesta or the “Festival of Nations 2015” was officially opened by Mayor Manuel Fuentes on October 09 and in his speech, welcomed the participation of embassies and artisans to the event. Mayor Fuentes emphasized the capacity of the event to promote culinary and cultural exchanges among participating nations and guests, and that this is evident in the event’s growing number of visitors every year.
At the Philippine booth, bags and fans made of abaca fiber and buri leaves from the Bicol region and Mindanao were displayed. Also featured at the Philippine booth were souvenir and gift items such as capiz refrigerator magnets and boxes, abaca placemats and tissue holders. Products of Mama Sita, a Philippine company that manufactures prepared mixes of popular Filipino recipes, were also displayed. Visitors of the fair took an initial interest in the Philippine booth to see the Filipino national wear baro’t saya after it was featured in a Chilean TV program regarding the widely-publicized event. Throughout the four-day event, tourism brochures and homemade Philippine sweets such as polvoron, pastillas and macaroons were handed to those who visited the booth.
The Filipino-owned restaurant, Delicias de Filipinas, once again participated in the event with their offerings of traditional Filipino food such as roasted lechon, adobo, and halo-halo.
The event saw traditional music, dances and songs performed by the community in Peñaflor and foreign artists, and showcased different products produced in the South American region. END
