KUALA FEST 1

20 October 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said today that an eight-person Philippine cultural delegation supported by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is participating at the Festival of ASEAN Cultural Expressions 2015 (FACE 2015), currently ongoing at the Nu Sentral Mall in Kuala Lumpur. 

Keheligal Cultural Dance Troupe, t'nalak cloth weaver Agustin Sudaw and basket weaver Sublito Tiblak composed the delegation. The dance troupe and Mr. Sudaw are from Lake Sebu in South Cotabato while Mr. Tiblak is from Brooke’s Point in Palawan.

The delegation attended the Embassy’s flag ceremony on October 19, where they treated Embassy officers and staff and members of the Filipino community at the chancery with T’boli dances. 

“We are extremely grateful for your visit here at the Embassy and for showcasing the rich Filipino culture in FACE 2015, particularly our arts, crafts and performances. Culture is an important medium for fostering understanding and friendship among peoples, and we believe that you have shared with your fellow ASEAN delegates and the Malaysian public the richness and diversity of the Filipino culture,” Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia J. Eduardo Malaya said.

The dance troupe performed at the opening ceremonies held at Nu Sentral’s Concourse area, attended by Malaysian Tourism and Culture Deputy Minister Datuk Mas Ermiyati Samsudin, other Ministry officials, representatives from ASEAN Missions in Kuala Lumpur and other guests. 

At the Philippine booth, Mr. Sudaw and Mr. Tiblak showcased their wares, including t’nalak fabrics, purses, accessories and woven baskets.                                                                                                                                                                                                            

The FACE 2015 is ongoing at the Concourse Level of the Nu Sentral Mall, where booths showcasing each ASEAN country’s arts and crafts to promote intercultural awareness and enhance understanding and friendship among the ASEAN community. The festival was held from October 15 to 20. END
