21 October 2015 - Upon hearing the news of TAV Airports' interest to invest in Philippine airports, the Philippine Embassy in Ankara went to Istanbul on October 06 to meet with TAV Airports CEO Sani Şener. TAV airports, as part of the consortium composed of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) and Aéroports de Paris, had submitted a tender to operate and maintain five airports in the Philippines, namely, Bacolod-Silang, Iloilo, Davao, Laguindingan and Bohol-Panglao.
During the meeting, Mr. Şener shared with the Embassy that aside from the five airports in Philippine provinces, TAV ultimately plans to win a tender to maintain and operate airports in Manila. Although TAV has only been in operations for 15 years, they are already operating several airports in Turkey, namely Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, Esenboğa Airport in Ankara, Izmir Adnan Mendrez Airport and Gazipaşa-Alanya Airports. TAV also currently operates the Tbilisi and Batumi airports in Georgia, Monastir and Enfidha-Hammamet airports in Tunisia, Skopje and Orhid airports in Macedonia, Madinah Airport in Saudi Arabia and Zagreb Airport in Croatia.
After meeting with TAV, the Embassy met with the officials of the Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB) which include the President, Mr. Başaran Ulusoy, and Ms. Ela Atakan, TÜRSAB's Director for Corporate Affairs. During the meeting, the Embassy was able to obtain TÜRSAB's support to the upcoming tourism roadshow in Turkey which will be organized by the Department of Tourism, in cooperation with the Embassy. By the end of the meeting, the Embassy and TÜRSAB agreed to work together in arranging familiarization trips to the Philippines. END
