ROME 2030

21 October 2015 – The Philippines, led by Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio de los Reyes with Senator Cynthia A. Villar, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, participated in the 42nd Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS42) held at the Food and Agriculture Organization Headquarters in Rome, Italy from October 12 to 15. 

With the theme “Making a Difference in Food Security and Nutrition”, the discussions centered on the recently adopted Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 and the programs of action to address the challenges of food security and nutrition. In relation to this, policy convergence on water for food security and nutrition, and the framework for action for food security and nutrition in protracted crises, among others, were on the agenda.

The high-level Philippine delegation to CFS42 signified the country’s commitment to the recently adopted 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as the embodiment of the global objective to eradicating poverty, achieving food security and improved nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture.

As a multi-stakeholder process, exchanges in CFS42 were not just between government officials of Member States and UN agencies/bodies but also included representatives of civil society organizations, international agricultural research organizations and regional financial institutions, private sector associations and private philanthropic foundations and observers.
