28 October 2015– The Philippine Embassy in Beirut marked the milestones of its registration of overseas voters (OV) in Lebanon by presenting special OV gifts to lucky Filipino workers at the Conference Room of the Embassy on three separate occasions.

On October 09, Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz met with Ms. Sheila Mae Andico, whose application for registration last April 16 enabled the Embassy to reach its target of 5,000 new OV registrants. The son of Ms. Andico’s employer accompanied her at the Embassy when she accepted her OV gift from Ambassador Ruiz.

The Embassy reached another milestone last July when it processed the application for registration of Ms. Magdalena B. Bermoza as the 6000th OV registrant. Ms. Bermoza received her special gift from Ambassador Ruiz at the Embassy on October 12, with the support of her delighted employer Mrs. Koharig Achkhanian.

Ambassador Ruiz also presented on October 15, a special OV gift to the 7000th OV registrant, Ms. Melca Into, which was witnessed by another member of the Filipino community, Ms. Shirley Pepito.

Ambassador Ruiz took the opportunity to brief the Lebanese employers of the Filipino workers on the Embassy’s efforts to promote mutual appreciation and understanding between the Philippines and Lebanon. She also invited them to attend the forthcoming second edition of the Philippine Christmas in Lebanon on November 29.

She also expressed the hope that more Filipinos in Lebanon would be able to register for the May 2016 national elections. END
