02 November 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Amman had the opportunity to share the Philippines’ best practices in gender and development (GAD) and women empowerment to the members of the Jordanian Women’s Central Bureau of the Jordanian Arab Party on October 26 at the Party’s headquarters in Bayader, Amman.
Around 30 Jordanian women headed by the Ms. Suhair Mohammed Arif Nofal, Head of the Bureau, and Sheikh Rafat Al-Rawashdeh, Secretary General of the Jordanian Arab Party, attended the event. Present also were the female staff of the Embassy.
Jordanian Arab Party is one of Jordan’s political parties which aims to upgrade the living conditions of Jordanian citizens and promote the principle of equality and the role of women in the development and unity of the country.
Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Junever Mahilum-West shared to the audience the Philippines’ best practices in GAD focusing on the programs and activities of the Department of Foreign Affairs. She also answered the questions from the audience during the open forum. Meanwhile, Consul Cassandra Sadawajaan, the Embassy’s GAD Focal Point Officer, highlighted the country’s international ranking in gender and development efforts, the laws and international conventions the Philippines has signed which uphold the role of women and protect their rights and Philippine women achievements in the fields of politics, economics, business, education and military.
The Jordanian Arab Party committed to support the Embassy in its GAD-related activities in Jordan and expressed interest to sustain a fruitful partnership in the years to come. END
