HK FEST

02 November 2015 – The 6th Philippine Film Festival was launched before a very appreciative audience that packed Asia Society’s Miller Theatre in Hong Kong on October 16. The viewers, composed of members of the diplomatic corps, academe, partners from numerous Hong Kong institutions, local media, and Filipino community, were treated to the heart-rending and critically acclaimed movie “Mano Po.”

Mano Po tells the story of a dysfunctional third-generation family that traces its roots to a married couple, a Chinese husband and a Filipino wife, from Fujian province in China. It also illustrates the stories of joy, struggle, and the complex realities in the life of Chinese-Filipino families. It stars some of the biggest names in Philippine cinema and show business, including Kris Aquino, the celebrity daughter of the late President Corazon Aquino and sister of the current President Benigno S. Aquino III.

This year’s festival deviates from previous years’ practice of showing featured films in one venue. It will be a movie caravan visiting schools and universities in Hong Kong to reach-out to more and diverse audiences.

This annual event is organized in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines to promote Philippine cinematic arts in Hong Kong. Genting Hong Kong Limited, Smart-PLDT, and San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong again lent its support to make the Festival a success.

A cocktail reception preceded the screening with food prepared by Conrad Hong Kong’s renowned Filipino chef Larry Orias. END
