02 November 2015 – In his first official visit to the State of Rhode Island, Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Jose L. Cuisia, Jr., accompanied by Philippine Consul General Mario L. De Leon, Jr. and Rhode Island Filipino community leader Captain Armando “Doy” Heredia, paid a call on and met with Senator Jack Reed at his office in Providence, Rhode Island, on October 26.
Ambassador Cuisia briefed Senator Reed on recent developments on political relations between the Philippines and the United States and other regional defense and security matters. Senator Reed also expressed his willingness to support measures to enhance PHL-US defense relations.
Elected in 1996, Senator Reed, a Democrat, is one of just eight Senators in U.S. history to graduate from West Point Military Academy in New York. He has been a national leader on defense, education, consumer protection and economic issues. He has also led campaigns to create jobs, promote responsible budgets and strengthening the U.S. economy, particularly in his state, Rhode Island.
He is currently a member of the Appropriations Committee, as well as a ranking member of the Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development. Additionally, he serves as a ranking member of the Armed Services Committee and a senior member of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, where he authored several key pieces of the historic Wall Street Reform Bill.
