PARIS FILM

05 November 2015 – Philippine Ambassador to France Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro hosted a reception in honor of internationally-acclaimed Filipino director Lav Diaz at the Philippine Embassy in Paris on November 03.  Lav Diaz has been chosen by the prestigious and world-renowned Jeu de Paume as the featured artist/director that will close its year-long screening of international films with a retrospective of his films. His films join other works of art and artistic performances that make up this year’s Paris Autumn Arts Festival, a project organized and supported by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Paris City Council, and the Regional Council of Greater Paris.  Ambassador Lazaro also welcomed to the Embassy the Director of the Jeu de Paume, Mme. Marta Gili as well as various French artists and cineastes invited to the special reception.

The reception at the Embassy was immediately followed by a screening of Storm Children, Book One, at the Jeu de Paume. Mr. Diaz explains that this film in the observing documentary style, aims to show how Filipinos and the Malay race in general are deeply affected by the cycles of nature. The film, entirely shot in black and white, follows different children in Manila and Tacloban in the aftermath of the devastating Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.

Lav Diaz, Very Rich Hours, the retrospective of his films, will be shown in the Jeu de Paume, 1 Place de la Concorde, 75008, Paris from November 03 to December 05. For more information, please check the Jeu de Paume’s website, www.jedepaume.org. END
