JORDAN OUMWA

05 November 2015 – A four-person team from the Department of Foreign Affairs – Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (DFA-OUMWA) headed by Principal Assistant Priscile Minde Bahjin conducted a re-evaluation and re-assessment of the risk factors confronting overseas Filipinos in Jordan from October 29 to November 03. 

On their first day in Amman, Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Junever Mahilum-West hosted a dinner-meeting for the OUMWA team, the Assistance-to-Nationals team of the Embassy and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) personnel. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Nathaniel Imperial of the Philippine Embassy in Tel-Aviv, Israel.  Mr. Candido Bontogon of the Philippine Embassy in Amman and Ambassador Imperial gave an overview of the current security situation and risk factors in Jordan, Palestine and Israel.

The team met the Filipino community leaders in Jordan and the wards of POLO-OWWA on their second day for an informal dialogue regarding their current situation in Jordan.  On their third and fourth days in Jordan, they met the Filipino community in Aqaba, Jordan and had a meeting with Mr. Waseem Jearaa, Head of the Labor Directorate of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA).

During their fifth and last day in Amman, the team had a meeting with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Jordan and the Governor of Irbid, Dr. Saad H. Al-Shebab.  They also visited the Filipino detainees in Juweida Detention Center in Amman. END
