06 November 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen has intensified its overseas voters (OV) registration campaign through outreach activities with the Filipino communities in Fujian and Jiangxi Provinces. Led by Philippine Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores, the Consulate General undertook OV registration at the Manila-Xiamen International School (MXIS) in Xiamen City and at SM City in Jinjiang City, both in Fujian Province on October 10 and 11, respectively, and at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province from October 24 to 25. Nine teachers at MXIS, 33 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Jinjiang City and 17 OFWs in Nanchang City, for a total of 59 overseas voters, were registered.
The Consulate General undertook the mobile OV registration despite having already surpassed its target of 100 new OV registrants to encourage overseas Filipinos to participate in the 2016 elections. As of October 28, a total of 211 OFWs have already registered for overseas voting.
Consul General Flores thanked all the Filipinos for their support and cooperation to the OV registration activities and also underscored the importance of exercising their right of suffrage in the 2016 national elections.
