10 November 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez and Minister and Consul General Robert Ferrer, Jr. together with Professor Clarita R. Carlos, a political science professor of the University of the Philippines, ASEAN expert, and former President of the National Defense College of the Philippines, met with the Rector of the Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya, Prof. Muzaffer Şeker and Department Chair of International Relations, Prof. Murat Çemrek on October 03.

The university hosted a lunch to the Philippine delegation featuring Turkish cuisine at the university cafeteria followed by a tête-à-tête at the residence of the rector.  The visiting delegation were given a short background about the university, its faculties and facilities. Over the meeting, a possible academic collaboration was also discussed to include a lecture on the Philippines and the ASEAN at the university by Professor Carlos in 2016.

Necmettin Erbakan University was founded in 2010 under the name “Konya University” and later renamed in 2012 as “Necmettin Erbakan University” in honor of Turkey’s former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan. END
