10 November 2015 - The Philippine Consulate General in Osaka and the Hyogo Prefecture Fundraising Committee for the Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan in the Philippines 2013 received the Project Report from Nippon International Cooperation for Community Development (NICCO) at the Hyogo Prefectural Government last October 13.

Philippine Consul General Maria Teresa L. Taguiang and Hyogo Prefecture Governor Toshizo Ido were briefed by Ms. Satoyo Ono, NICCO Director General, announcing the completion of the project under NICCO’s undertaking in Capoocan, Leyte with the funds raised from Hyogo citizens amounting to Yen 15,679,572 (PHP6,008,752).

The NICCO Project, in cooperation with Philippine NGO People’s Disaster Risk Reduction Network, involved four clusters: (i) survey of the damage and meeting with the local government, NGOs in 18-28th of December 2013, (ii) shelter recovery support – one from 20 January 2013 to June 2014 involving the distribution of repair kits to 850 households in 12 villages and 71 local carpenters benefiting from technique transfer from Japanese architects; (iii) school building recovery support from June 09 to July 31 in the repairs of one classroom in Lemon Elementary School and three classrooms in Tolibao Elementary School; and (iv) shelter recovery support- and another from 09 December 2014 to – 31 May 2015 benefiting 800 households in nine villages with 20 local carpenters benefiting in the technique transfer. The last cluster is the one directly funded by Hyogo Fundraising Committee.

Ms. Ono concluded that the project was completed in a very successful manner. Governor Ido remarked that the project went very well. END
