12 November 2015 - As part of its trade and investment promotions in Argentina, the Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires participated in a workshop, entitled “Commercial Relations with Southeast Asia,” and series of business meetings in Cordoba, Argentina from November 03 to 04.
Second Secretary Ma. Carmela Teresa A. Cabreira highlighted the need to improve existing commercial ties between the Philippines and Argentina and encouraged workshop participants to look into the Philippines both as a source of goods and as an investment destination during her well-received presentation at the workshop.
Participants in the workshop, as well as businessmen and provincial officials, were keen on improving trade relations with the Philippines given the importance of the country and of Southeast Asia, as whole, to the export economy of Cordoba.
Cordoba, located at the geographical center of Argentina, is considered the second largest provincial economy in Argentina after the province of Buenos Aires. In 2014, Cordoba’s exports to Southeast Asia reached US$1.2 billion. Of this figure, US$129 million represent exports to the Philippines, mainly comprising of agricultural products such as soya, corn, whey, sorghum and peanuts.
The workshop and subsequent meetings were organized by ProCordoba, a semi-public corporation in-charge of Cordoba’s export promotions. END
