13 November 2015 – Philippine Ambassador to China Erlinda F. Basilio and corporate executives from Huawei Technologies, led by Director of Public Affairs and Communications Masha Ma, welcomed the first batch of participants from the Philippines at the opening ceremony of the inauguration of the Huawei Philippines’ Seeds for the Future Program, held at the Huawei Beijing Executive Briefing Center on October 26.
Huawei Philippines selected 10 information technology and communications (ICT) students from among thousands of applicants in the Philippines to participate in a two-week training program, which would allow the participants to learn about Huawei’s products and operations, and immerse in Chinese culture for the duration of the program.
During her remarks, Ambassador Basilio encouraged the students to do their best during the training program to showcase the vast potential of Filipino minds in the ICT sector. Ambassador Basilio expressed hope that, with the success of the first batch of participants, Huawei would expand the training program to include more students from various parts of the Philippines.
Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s global corporate social responsibility (CSR) flagship program. Since its launch in 2008, the program seeks to develop local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a greater understanding of, and interest in, the telecommunications sector, and improve and encourage regional building and participation in the digital community. Through the program, Huawei collaborates with local governments, higher education institutes, and other organizations to select top ICT students and offer them eye-opening opportunities to study and experience the future technologies at the headquarters in China.
