23 November 2015 – The ASEAN Committee in Oslo, composed of the Ambassadors of Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, visited Bodø, the administrative capital of Nordlan Kommune in Northern Norway, from November 03 to 04, to promote business opportunities in the ASEAN Economic Community and the individual ASEAN countries and find areas of cooperation between Norway and ASEAN.

Bodø is the headquarters of the Norwegian Air Force and the hub for airlines in Northern Norway. The Norwegian Civil Aviation Autority is situated in Bodø, as is the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre of Northern Norway. It is also the location of the only police academy in Norway outside Oslo, the Norwegian Armed Forces headquarters.

Nordland Kommune’s major industries are fisheries and offshore petroleum exploration. Nordland is well known for the fishing of codfish and fish farming of salmon.

The ASEAN Ambassadors met with the Norwegian Fisherman’s Association, Norway Aviation Authority, the Mayor of Bodø, the Rector and other officials of the University of Nordland, as well as businessmen from Bodø and Leknes who are interested in doing business in the ASEAN region.
