23 November 2015 - A delegation from Bank Indonesia (BI) Jakarta led by Deputy Director and BI Representative to Tokyo Mr. Reza Anglingkusumo; and accompanied by Mr. Trisno Nugroho, Deputy Director for Strategic Management and Governance; Mr. Decymus, Deputy Director for Fiscal Management; Mr. Rahmat Dwi Saputra, Deputy Director for International Relations; and Mr. Trisno Nugroho, Deputy Director for Strategic Management and Governance; paid a courtesy call on the Consulate General on November 18 in order to discuss the regulatory framework, incentives and role of the government and private sector in the success of the Philippine fisheries industry, particularly in General Santos and Davao cities. During the meeting, the Consulate General was joined by Atty. Benjamin F.S. Tabios, Jr., Assistant Director for Administrative Services, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), who participated in the said meeting via teleconferencing from the Philippines.

During the said meeting, the BI delegation informed of the leadership development program of Bank Indonesia, which involves visits to various provinces in Indonesia in order to study their respective industries. In the case of North Sulawesi, the delegation noted the sizable fisheries sector and the region’s proximity to Mindanao, particularly General Santos City. The Consulate General and BFAR took the opportunity outline the key role of government in the development of the Philippine fisheries industry and to brief the delegation on the regulatory framework and the key policies of the Philippine fisheries sector leading to the development of the Philippines as a major fish producer, including the provision and leasing of postharvest facilities, monitoring and capture of accurate traffic data on fisheries, and aquaculture and sustainability of fish stocks.
