GUAM ESKWELA

03 December 2015 – The Eskuwelahang Munti ng Guam (EMG) held its 12th graduation ceremony on November 29 at the Holiday Resort Hotel in Tumon.

A total of 22 students successfully completed the Filipino language and culture course administered by the EMG volunteer teachers.  The class was divided into two age groups with 11 grade school students in the first group and 11 adult students in the second group. Both groups gave their own presentations during the graduation ceremony demonstrating the Filipino language skills they had acquired through their participation in the EMG.

Philippine Consul General Marciano de Borja together with Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian and Consul Mark Francis C. Hamoy, as well as Mr. Alex Gagaring and Ms. Lea Santos of the Filipino Cultural Center, graced the program and handed out the certificates of completion to the graduating students.

In his remarks, Consul General de Borja thanked the Eskwelahang Munti ng Guam volunteer teachers for their continued dedication in teaching young Filipinos and Filipino-Americans on the island. He also noted that not only Filipino-American children are interested to learn about the Filipino language and culture, but even adult American professionals have participated in the regular classes of EMG. He also reiterated the Consulate General’s commitment to support the EMG as it continues with its 13th session in February 2016.

The 10-weekend sessions are taught by volunteer teachers led by EMG Principal, Mrs. Milagros Moguel, and assisted by Ms. Ciony Viray, Ms. Gloria Baguinon and Ms. Cora Mucho. END
