ATHENS BAZAAR

03 December 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Athens participated in the 16th International Christmas Bazaar which was held at the Helexpo Palace in Marousi, Athens, from November 28 to 29. A total of 36 Embassies (Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Georgia, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Moldova, Morocco, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa,  Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam, Zimbabwe), and six Consulates (Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Malaysia)  participated in the event.

The bazaar was organized by the Friends of the Child, a charitable association of Greek women which was established in 1987. The proceeds will be used to support ongoing projects of the Friends of the Child which includes a Nursery School for children of single mothers in need.

The Philippine Embassy showcased Filipino products such as native bags, fans and hats, ladies’ accessories made from fresh water pearls and indigenous necklaces and earrings made by members of the Tinguians of Abra in Greece (TAG).  A bamboo bike was also put on display at the Philippine booth for the duration of the bazaar.

Filipino cooked foods such as buko pandan, sago at gulaman, ginataang bilo-bilo with langka, pancit bihon, vegetable lumpia and lumpiang shanghai which enjoyed popular patronage from the bazaar guests were also sold during the event.

Brochures from the Department of Tourism (DOT) on Boracay, Palawan, Cebu and Bohol, and Metro Manila were also distributed at the Bazaar. END
