JKT CONCERT

03 December 2015 – World-renowned multi-awarded pianist, Dr. Raul Sunico, was featured in a piano concert organized by the Philippine Embassy in Indonesia, in cooperation with the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts, which was held at the Usmar Ismail Hall in Jakarta on November 24.

The concert series entitled "Philippine Musical Journey" was part of the Embassy’s initial cultural offerings following the launch of its Sentro Rizal on November 22.  Some 250 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, the Filipino community, friends from the business sector and students from various arts and music schools were in attendance. 

Dr. Sunico treated the crowd with his rendition of Filipino classic songs, including a medley of “Bahay Kubo” and “Leron Leron Sinta” as well as “Buhat” as arranged by Dr. Sunico himself.  Dr. Sunico also dazzled the audience with his masterpieces from great composers: Gershwin’s "Rhapsody in Blue", Ravel’s "Sonatine", Wagner/Liszt's "Liebestod" from Tristan and Isolde, Rachmaninoff’s “Preludes” and Chopin’s “Etude”, “Waltz” and “Polonaise.”         Dr. Sunico was given a standing ovation after his impressive and brilliant performance.

Dr. Sunico is currently the President of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Dean of the Conservatory of Music of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.  Excelling at a number of international competitions, Sunico is a medalist at the Viotti International Piano Competition in Vercelli, Italy, finalist at the Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano, Italy, and recipient of the Henry Cowell Prize at the University of Maryland International Piano Competition. He is also a TOYM (Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines) honoree for Music in 1986. END
