09 December 2015 - A training seminar on gender sensitivity was organized at Long Beach Suites Dhaka last November 14 with the participation of the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy and their spouses.
As Foreign Service personnel are exposed to different socio-cultural environments whenever they carry out their public service commitments abroad, proper guidance and sufficient know-how in adapting to different situations which call for gender sensitivity training are needed. With this, the Philippine Embassy took the opportunity of the Gender Awareness and Development (GAD) program to provide its personnel and their spouses with the facility to properly respond to the call for efficient delivery of public service.
Ms. Joy Jakosalem-Balane of the United Nations Office for Public Services in Dhaka conducted the activity, with presentations, interactive group exercises and discussions on topics such as differences between sex and gender, gender ascribed roles and responses to gender inequality.
The training assisted participants in broadening their consciousness in dealing with gender issues and developing their understanding of the capabilities and role of men and women in the society.
Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo also gave a lecture on social graces during the seminar.
Participants were awarded certificates at the end of the seminar and a token of appreciation was given to the guest lecturer, Ms. Balane. END
