11 December 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Cairo encouraged Filipinos in Egypt to plan, save and invest for their future during a seminar conducted on December 05 under the “Paghahanda sa Kinabukasan” Financial Learning Campaign of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
The seminar tackled the importance of early and thorough planning in order to achieve financial stability, the primary goal of Filipinos working abroad. It also briefed the audience on various financial products available in the Philippines for savings and investments.
Participants, mostly female household service workers (HSWs) in Cairo, noted the need for more sound financial options for overseas Filipinos in Egypt, including means to open Philippine bank accounts and establish cooperatives while abroad.
“Paghahanda sa Kinabukasan” is a program of the BSP aimed at mainstreaming the importance of financial planning and productive uses of remittances among overseas Filipinos.
The seminar, part of the Embassy’s continuing Gender and Development (GAD) initiative, also supports Republic Act No. 9710 or the Magna Carta for Women, specifically the right of women to information affecting them. END
