15 December 2015 - Philippine Ambassador to Liechtenstein Joselito A. Jimeno presented his Letter of Credence to His Serene Highness Prince Alois of Liechtenstein on December 11. During the call, he relayed to HSH Prince Alois the strong advocacy of the Philippines for the rule of law and how upholding the rule of law becomes more imperative in the midst of currently evolving geopolitical landscape, especially in relation to maritime and territorial disputes among nations.
Ambassador Jimeno briefed the Prince on the ongoing negotiations between the Philippines and EFTA countries, which include Liechtenstein, on a free trade agreement. Once signed, the FTA is expected to boost the flow of trade and commercial exchanges between the Philippines and EFTA countries.
Ambassador Jimeno earlier called on Liechtenstein Foreign Minister Aurelia Frick and briefed her on the reform agenda of the Aquino administration, particularly its flagship program on good governance and anti-corruption. He also discussed current developments on the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea issue. Ambassador Jimeno also expressed his desire to see more investments from Liechtenstein into the Philippines.
While in Liechtenstein, Ambassador Jimeno also met with Philippine Honorary Consul Alexander Ospelt, Managing Director of Ospelt Food and Pet Food Group. They discussed the possibility of bringing Filipino trainees to Liechtenstein. The principality has more job vacancies than its local populace and has to employ foreign workers, especially from neighboring countries of Austria and Germany.
Ambassador Jimeno also spoke about the possibility of business-to-business level of cooperation on renewable energy and waste recycling for energy. END
