17 December 2015 – The Filipino Blood Donors of Milan was awarded the Premio Fernanda Morelati (Fernanda Morelati Prize) by the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico di Milano for recruiting the largest number of blood donors among 92 nationalities present in Milan.
The awarding ceremony was held during the annual general assembly of the Non-Governmental Organization called Associazione Amici del Policlinico e della Mangiagalli Donatori di Sangue (Association of Friends of the Policlinico Mangiagalli and Blood Donors) on December 12 at the University of Milan. Philippine Consul General Marichu Mauro was in attendance to witness the special honor conferred on the Filipino Blood Donors of Milan.
The prize is in honor of the late Dr. Ferdinanda Morelati, head of the Immuno-haematology Laboratory at the Blood Transfusion Centre of the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico di Milano and founder of the Lombardy Regional Bank of Rare Blood Components. The Blood Bank, which is now called the Fernanda Morelati Blood Bank, is the only one of its kind in Italy and the fruit of the dedication and professionalism of Dr. Morelati and her team.
The prize honors the donors and associations who have made significant contributions to the Fernanda Morelati Blood Bank.
Also present was the Santo Nino Choir of Cebu who performed a special repertoire of Christmas songs during the event. END
