17 December 2015 - Ladies of the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, led by Madame Rena Cristina Koa-Malaya, M.D., hosted a seminar for the ASEAN Ladies’ Circle (ALC) in Kuala Lumpur last December 07 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The seminar entitled “Age is Just a Number: ALC Philippines Session on Beauty, Fitness, and Wellness” was a hit among the ladies from all 10 ASEAN countries who came to the event to learn more about how they can take better care of themselves.

The event was well-attended with ALC Patron and wife of Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman Datin Sri Siti Rubiah Bt Datuk Abdul Samad, ALC Adviser and wife of Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Reezal Merican Datin Sri Ismalina Ismail, Cambodian Ambassador to Malaysia HRH Princess Norodom Arunrasmy, YTL Corporation and JW Marriot Executive Director Dato Yeoh Soo Min, as well as wives of ASEAN Ambassadors in attendance.

Madame Malaya, wife of Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia J. Eduardo Malaya and Patron of ALC Philippines, is an obstetrician-gynecologist. She gave a talk on wellness – particularly on the aspect of reproductive – and discussed how women can minimize the symptoms and discomforts caused by menopause.

Ms. Carolyn Ramoran-Malasig, wife of Embassy Third Secretary and Vice Consul Alvin Malasig and Honorary Secretary of the ALC, has been working with beauty brands for over a decade now – as a model, lifestyle journalist, and beauty blogger. She gave a talk on beauty and skin care, focusing on usual problems modern women face today.

The ladies were also treated to a fitness session with Ms. Jinie Kamal, founder of fitness gym Impulse Studio, and the studio’s trainer Piak Lin Chan. The two of them demonstrated quick exercises that the ladies can do at home, in the office, and even with their partners. The ladies also tried out a few stretches that can help relieve back pain.

After the seminar, JW Marriott served refreshments and Malaysian dishes paired with Filipino delicacies from Merienda de Eva such as mamon, cassava cake, and sago’t gulaman.

The Embassy’s Minister and Consul Maria Antonina Mendoza-Oblena and Lipraxedes Jumawan played the piano and Ms. Maria Karen Santos-Herrera, wife of Embassy Third Secretary and Vice Consul John Francis Herrera, and Datin Alma Nair performed a couple of songs.

kl ladies3The Philippine-hosted event was praised by Datin Sri Siti Rubiah and Datin Sri Ismalina for being unique and informative with practical tips that women nowadays need in their daily lives.

The ladies went home with skincare items from Althea Korea, Women’s Health and Expatriate Lifestyle magazines from Mongoose Publishing, and free trial vouchers at Impulse Studio to get them started on their journey to overall wellness.

Members of the Filipino community such as Puan Sri Sylvia Merican and Princess Dr. Becky Leogardo also donated Filipino delicacies and cosmetics to add to the goodie bags for the ladies. END
