21 December 2015 - In view of the success of the first Ilocano Language Acquisition and Immersion for the New Generation (iLAING) held from March to June, Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin, together with representatives from the Filipino Community Center, the Candonians of Hawaii, the United Laoaguenos of Hawaii and the University of Hawaii Ilocano Program, signed this afternoon the Memorandum of Cooperation establishing a collaborative relationship among the abovementioned organizations to implement iLAING 2, which will be held from March to May 2016, and in 2017, for the Ilocano language course and the immersion program, respectively.
As in its inaugural program, iLAING 2 will afford 30 qualified, young Filipino Americans the opportunity to learn basic Ilocano language in a classroom set-up for a period of three months in 2016. At the end of the language course, the top five students will be selected to embark on an immersion program to the Philippines in 2017.
The Filipino Community Center, the Candonians of Hawaii and the United Laoaguenos of Hawaii will start accepting applications for the iLAING 2 on December 20. ILAING 2 Candonians of Hawaii will provide additional information on the program and will start accepting applications from interested students by the third week of December 2014. END
