23 December 2015 - Vancouver-based visual artist, Jose Antonio S. Tan was recently recognized by the Philippine Consulate General for his dedication, commitment and generosity on 18 December 2015.

Born and raised in the Philippines, “J.A.,” who was diagnosed with autism before his third birthday, uses acrylic, oil, black ink, pastel, pencil, crayons, and mixed media for his art pieces. His praxis includes painting, drawing and collage. He completed his Fine Arts degree at Emily Carr University in May 2010. J.A. has mounted solo shows and group shows in Vancouver, Philippines, California, London, Miami and Beijing. His artwork, “Victory,” was chosen by the UN over 200 worldwide submissions and was issued as a United Nations stamp in April 2012.

Since February, J.A. has graciously lent several of his paintings to the Consulate General. His artwork has been on display at the Consulate’s public reception area and conference room.

On the occasion of International Migrants Day on December 18, Philippine Consul General Ferrer Neil Frank R. Ferrer recognized J.A.’s generosity and dedication to his craft by awarding him a Certificate of Appreciation. To cap his recognition, J.A. and his family donated a painting entitled “Stress-Free,” an original acrylic mixed media on canvas, to the Consulate. Consul General Ferrer expressed his gratitude to the Tan family for their continued support. END
