BEIRUT MARTYRDOM

29 December 2015 - The Philippine Embassy in Beirut, together with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and Overseas Worker Welfare Administration and the Embassy shelter wards, commemorated the 119th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Philippine Embassy Showroom in the morning of December 28.

The ceremony commenced with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the recital of the pledge of allegiance to the Philippine Flag by the participants to the event, followed by a special poetry reading, in Filipino, of Dr. Jose Rizal’s “Mi Ultimo Adios” by Protocol Officer Joel Ramirez, followed by Ms. Girlly Torentira from the Migrant Workers and Other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC).

In her brief message, Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz emphasized the importance of commemorating the life, works, nationalism, and martyrdom of the Philippines’ National Hero. She encouraged the participants to consider the values and principles that Dr. Rizal lived by as they remain relevant to this day. END
