05 January 2016 - The 2015 Pa-Staran lantern-making contest once again proved Pinoy ingenuity and resourcefulness with the evident creativity and glitter of this year’s entries. The lantern competition and mini-concert made for an exciting opening act of the Misa De Aguinaldo.

The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong organized the event with the support of LBC Hong Kong. LBC generously provided the cash prizes for the top five entries, including the People’s Choice Award, chosen via online voting, a new feature added to the 2015 edition of Pa-Staran. The grand prize winner received HK$ 5,000; the first-runner up received HK$ 2,500; second runner-up, HK$ 1,500; third runner-up, HK$ 1,250; and fourth runner-up, HK$ 1,000; while the People’s Choice Award winner got PhP 1,000.

The panel of judges were composed of Deputy Consul General Christian De Jesus, LBC Country Manager Arnorld Cereno, and Sister Victoria Ramos. The winners of the 2015 Pa-Staran competition are as follows:

Bangar Association of Hong Kong - Grand Prize winner and People’s Choice Award;

Guardians Magic Group - First Runner-Up;

Diwa’t Kabayan OFW Group – Second Runner-Up;

Timpuyog Ti Bauangenians Society Hong Kong – Third Runner-Up; and,

The Luzon Alliance International – Fourth Runner-Up.

The awarding ceremony for the 2015 Pa-Staran competition was spiced up with performances by DJs Jay “the Big-J” Martinez and Roy “McCurves” Encarnacion, the Hour of Love Choir, El Shaddai Band, Ms. Josephine Humangit, Singing Idols, and Arnold and Adrian Pineda. END
