11 January 2016 - The Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh, led by Ambassador Christopher B. Montero, held a simple commemoration of the 119th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal on December 29, 2015 with a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Embassy grounds. The Embassy was joined by more than 30 members of the Filipino community in extolling the heroism of the Philippine national hero.
Visiting cultural experts from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Mr. Arvin Villalon and Mr. Jason Domling, presented a short performance of an Ifugao repertoire (Kullibaw, Salidummay ken Tongali and Dinuyya) that pays tribute to Dr. Rizal’s life and sacrifice.
A simple Filipino breakfast was served, followed by a screening of the movie “Bayaning Third World” at the Sentro Rizal of Phnom Penh. END
