26 January 2016 - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago hosted a reception entitled, “Media Night at the Consulate General” on January 21 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Consulate on its “14th Pagkikita sa Konsulado” for the month of January.
Print and TV media personalities present were (in no particular order) Ihman Esturco of F Magazine, Donna Reyes of Fil-Am Now!, Bart and Yoly Tubalinal of Fil-Am Mega Scene, Joseph Lariosa of Journal Globalinks, Rogie Mallari and Ron Lim of The Filipino Channel (TFC), Veronica Leighton, Joe Mauricio, Elsie Sy-Niebar and Jovie Calma of Via Times/CPRTV.
In his opening remarks, Philippine Consul General to Chicago Generoso DG Calonge acknowledged the vital role of the media in influencing public opinion that ultimately drives policymaking. He thanked Filipino-American media professionals for delivering right and timely information and contributing to the further education of the Filipino community.
The Consul General also took the opportunity to make important announcements and updates on overseas voting for the 2016 Philippine national elections on April 09 to May 09; the pending Congressional Gold Medal Act for Filipino Veterans of WWII; and a community outreach about federal and state health care programs, conducted by the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) Great Lakes Regional Network on January 23 in Elgin, Illinois.
Other reminders and announcements on different community projects and upcoming activities were also made by Ms. Almira Gilles of Gawad Kalinga, Ms. Racquel Hays of DIWA, Mr. Ruben Salazar of PACF, Mr. Jun Gavino of APO Midwest Chicago Alumni Association and Ms. Jade Cabagnot of the Harold Washington Library.
A light reception in the evening capped the event. END
