28 January 2016 – Philippine Consul General to Honolulu Gina A. Jamoralin attended the State of the State Address on January 25 at the Capitol at the invitation of Governor David Ige.
In his speech, Gov. Ige cited the following key proposals: Installation of equipment to cool 1,000 public school classrooms by the end of the year, develop water, sewer, and other infrastructure that will make it easier to build affordable housing, renovate the State Hospital in Kaneohe and relocate the Oahu Community Correctional Facility to Halawa from Kalihi, and revitalize Kalihi and Kakaako.
Gov. Ige also promised more short-term shelters for the homeless, to diversify some of Oahu’s major public housing developments, and to improve health care systems by partnering with the private sector or go into more public-private partnerships (PPP), boost tourism, combat the spread of invasive species by creating the Hawaii Invasive Species Authority, and encourage innovation which would boost the economy.
