15 February 2016 - The Philippine Embassy in Singapore joined the launching of the Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE), an outreach project of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), on January 24.

The CDE will provide employment-related advice and other related services such as mental health counseling, legal clinics, mediation, humanitarian aid, and emergency shelter, including a 24-hour help line.

The CDE’s agenda includes raising awareness of employment rights and holding workshops to promote good employment practices. The project receives seed funding from the Singapore Government.

Prior to its launching, NTUC officials met up with Philippine Embassy officials on December 22, 2015 to discuss common goals and a partnership between the Embassy and CDE.

There are approximately 230,000 domestic workers in Singapore. END
