10 February 2016 - Dr. Felipe M. de Leon, Jr., Chairman of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), conducted a lecture on Philippine culture entitled “What Makes Filipinos Filipino? A Culture of Healing” at the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal on February 02. The lecture was attended by the faculty of the Philippine School in Oman and personnel of the Embassy and Philippine Overseas Labor Officer (POLO).
Chairman de Leon’s lecture highlighted the inherent nurturing qualities and natural propensity of Filipinos to connect with others, which makes Filipinos stand out from other people. He believes that awareness of these traits should lead Filipinos to capitalize on their strong ability to connect with others, reaffirm their roots and develop their other talents.
The lecture was preceded by Chairman de Leon’s courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman Narciso T. Castañeda. During their meeting, Ambassador Castañeda congratulated the Chairman on the signing of the Philippine-Oman Memorandum of Understanding on Cultural Cooperation earlier that day on the sidelines the 2nd Philippines-Oman Joint Bilateral Consultation Meeting (JBCM). They discussed the Chairman’s plans in implementing the agreement and the support provided by the NCCA for the Embassy’s cultural diplomacy projects. END
