12 February 2016 – The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants – Western Region Chapter (PICPAWR) successfully held its 1st Inter-School Spelling Bee Contest on January 29 at the Philippine Consulate General’s (PCG) Hall.
There were 40 high school students who entered the competition, composed of ten representatives from each of the four Philippine Curriculum schools based in Jeddah, namely, Al Dura (Gems) International School, Bader International School (BID), Durat Al Sharq International School (DASIS) and the International Philippine School in Jeddah (IPSJ)..
In his inspirational message, Vice Consul Rodney Jonas L. Sumague highlighted relevance of such contests in imparting the importance of proper and clear communication especially with modern technology. He expressed full support to the contest and expressed hope that it will be a regular event.
Ms. Melody S. Rubis, a Grade 8 student from Bader International School emerged as the champion while Hannah Thea C. Conde and Yasmin L. Calidro, both Grade 10 students from Gems, were declared as 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up, respectively. They each received a medal, a trophy, and cash prizes from PICPAWR. Gift vouchers and items were also awarded to the top ten finalists.
PICPAWR aims to make the inter-school spelling bee contest an annual activity. END
