16 February 2016 - The Philippine Embassy invited Filipino community leaders in Canberra to celebrate Australia Day at Work 2016 with its first Kapihan sa Pasuguan: Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Philippines-Australia Relations on January 28 at the Chancery.

On behalf of Mr. Jeremy Lasek, Chief Executive Officer of the National Australia Day Council to celebrate Australia Day at Work, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Pedro Villagra Delgado, invited Embassies and High Commissions to support the project.

The Embassy’s first Kapihan for the year starts the year-long commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Philippines-Australia diplomatic relations, which was established on 4 July 1946.

In her welcome remarks, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Nina P. Cainglet acknowledged and thanked the Filipino community for their invaluable contribution towards strengthening Philippines-Australia relations by enriching the fabric of Australia’s multicultural society. She expressed appreciation to the leaders for their organizations’ steadfast partnership and cooperation with the Embassy in its activities and welcomed opportunities to work closely with them in this milestone year.

The officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Canberra and Filipino community enthusiastically joined a trivia game organized by Consul Grace Anne Bulos to review the highlights of Philippines-Australia relations through the years.

The Kapihan was successfully capped by the Australian tradition of delectable high tea. END
