19 February 2016 - The Philippine Embassy in Canberra successfully participated in the 2016 National Multicultural Festival on February 13.
The festival, a much anticipated community event, is annually organized by the ACT government to provide thousands of festival goers with opportunities to taste international cuisine, enjoy an array of musical traditions and cultural performances, as well as international handmade products. The various stalls transformed the city center into an international arena from February 12 to 14 in celebration of Canberra’s cultural diversity.
The Embassy showcased the rich Philippine culture through its display of jewelry, bags, accessories, home décor and hand woven fabric like hablon. Many were amazed by the elegance and uniqueness of Philippine clothing and accessories made from native fibers like abaca (Manila hemp) and piña (pineapple).
The Embassy distributed “Its More Fun in Philippines” bags and tourism brochures donated by the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Sydney with the added delight of 7D mangorind candies.
The Philippine Cultural Society, a Filipino organization in Canberra, performed Philippine folk dances at the Malaysia Village during the festival.
To help promote awareness of the ASEAN community, the Embassy also contributed tourism brochures and bag tags to the ASEAN booth. END
