Bangkok23 September 2013 – Personnel of the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, headed by Minister and Consul General Edgar Badajos, visited the Wongpanit Recycling Organization’s Garbage Recycle Separation Plant on September 15 to observe the company’s recycling operations. The plant is located in the north central province of Phitsanulok, which is also known as the recycling capital of Thailand.

During the visit, the Embassy personnel were given a tour of the plant by Dr. Somthai Wongcharoen, the company’s founder and Managing Director.

Dr. Somthai said that the company collects and recycles about 80 to 100 tons of garbage per day. He said that as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, Wongpanit representatives go around the country to give free lecture and training on garbage collection and recycling to interested communities. He added that in its branch in Cambodia, company representatives train homeless children and their parents as a means of livelihood instead of begging on the streets. At its main plant in Phitsanulok, Wongpanit offers a 10-day training course on garbage collection and recycling. The course is open to public and private sector officials. END
